THE WORLD’S FIRST AI PRODUCED, FASHION FILM STUDIO

An experiential campaign at the intersection of luxury, technology, and cinematic self-expression. Michael Kors approached David Boxser, then co-founder of the creative innovation studio Technology Humans and Taste, to craft a cultural moment worthy of The Walk’s grand finale in Shanghai. The brief was clear: create a world-class experience that would close the campaign with impact and unlock massive amplification across China’s digital platforms.

AI wasn’t part of that original brief.
But it quickly became clear that to deliver truly personalized, cinematic storytelling at scale, we’d have to invent a new way of working—and let machine learning do what traditional production never could.

The result was The Walk Shanghai, a 600-square-foot, AI-enabled fashion experience that transformed guests into stars of their own fashion films, all generated in real time. Part runway, part film studio, part cultural lightning strike—it was a first-of-its-kind activation that married spectacle with substance, and innovation with intimacy.

At the heart of the experience was the Walkbox: a 50-foot runway flanked by towering LED screens displaying constantly shifting global cityscapes. As each guest walked, three high-resolution cinema cameras captured their movement from multiple angles—no direction, no script, just their walk.

Behind the scenes, a custom-built AI editing pipeline, powered by Trash and integrated by AV&C and the THAT team, tagged, cut, and assembled footage in real time. Within minutes, guests received a high-gloss 30-second edit, with title card, end card and edited to music, made just for them. No two were alike.

The production infrastructure was as ambitious as the creative. High-bandwidth ProRes streams were funneled into a hybrid AI-human workflow, pushed through Final Cut Pro for live QC, and delivered on-site. In a single night, the system generated over 600 personalized films, each one brand-worthy and social-ready.

DESIGNED FOR CHINA. BUILT FOR THE WORLD.

The experience was amplified with strategic fluency across China’s dominant platforms.

  • A livestream on Yizhibo drew 9.53 million viewers.

  • A challenge on Douyin (#CityRunway) generated over 42,000 UGC videos.

  • Weibo drove 3 billion impressions via the campaign hashtags.

Cultural credibility came from a smart mix of global and local guests: actress Yang Mi, model Soo Joo Park, and Princess Olympia of Greece among others—each sharing the moment with their own communities.

The blend of technology, talent, and platform fluency made it more than a party. It was a participatory fashion film festival, engineered for mass creativity.

THE FIRST OF ITS KIND

This wasn’t just an activation—it was a world-first in AI-powered brand storytelling.
No filters. No templates. No waiting. Just cinematic content created live, in a space where luxury met innovation and individuality took center stage.

By putting AI behind the camera and guests in front of it, we gave the audience something they hadn’t seen before: a fashion film that belonged to them.
